This term is stated in a profit and loss statement which is attached to a Memorandum of Interest dealing with the sale of a company which is active in the field of specialised civil engineering.

"Verminderung/Erhöhung des **Bestands an unfertigen Bauten**"

What is the correct translation of "Bestand" in this context? "Portfolio"? Or maybe "existing number of unfinished buildings"?

In der (IAS/IFRS-)Bilanzierung werden "unfertige Erzeugnisse (und Leistungen)" als "work in progress" bezeichnet - vgl. z. B. http://www.revision24.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=v...

Diesen allgemeinen Begriff könntest Du auch hier verwenden - die Präzisierung "(construction) projects in progress" wäre eher unüblich. "Bestand" könntest Du weglassen und schreiben: "Increase/decrease in (contract) work in progress".

agree  RobinB: Or perhaps "construction in progress". At any rate, nix "unfinished", and nix "stock" (which is more of a macroeconmic term in any case).
