Discussion

Steffen Walter May 9, 2005:
Yes, it's IFRS=International Financial Reporting Standards. IAS/IFRS 37 is entitled "***Provisions***, contingent liabilities and contingent assets" -> "Rckstellungen, Eventualschulden und Eventualforderungen". Eventualschulden=ungewisse Verpflichtungen
Non-ProZ.com May 9, 2005:
Attempt to answer to Steffen's question Accounting standards: the document says somewhere (It's very long!) that the audit has been carried out in accordance with IRFS. Does that answer your question?

uncertain obligations

"Provisions are recognised for all identifiable risks and uncertain obligations."

You could also say "Provisions are recognised for all identifiable risks and liabilities of uncertain timing or amount".

You never, **ever**, recognise provisions for contingent liabilities. Doesn't matter if it's IFRSs or HGB. Contingent liabilities are never recognised, they're only disclosed in the notes.

agree Steffen Walter : You are right.

contingent liabilities

Provisions include all identifiable risks and c.l.

(one way to go about this one)

Which accounting standards are to be applied here? Depending on the answer, Rückstellungen could also be "reserves" (US GAAP).

disagree RobinB : Steffen: Sorry about this, but provisions are never recognised for contingent liabilities, which are (only) disclosed in the notes.
