French term

claque

French to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion Patternmaking software
This is a section of a training manual for patternmaking software. This section is talking about closing a dart.

"Il est conseillé de travailler sur le Patron plan sur un plan ou claque spécifique au pivot de pince."

I can't find any definition or use of "claque" that would make sense in this context.

It is French from France for US English.

TIA

Hi Rachel, in the TM, they use modèle and gabarit for template. But thanks for chiming in!
Rachael Clayton Jun 20, 2019:
Could you call it a template?
Lorraine Dubuc Jun 19, 2019:
calque A 'calque' is, I think, a carbon copy of the pattern that is reproduced by using a transparent tracing paper over the original pattern, in order to reproduce the desired sizing. A pattern can serve many sizes but 'tracing' (décalquage) the needed size to cut the garment from it, allows to keep the original pattern intact instead of cutting along the lines of the desired size. So 'calque' is a reproduction of the pattern or part of the pattern. IMO

stencil

This is a typo. The word should have been "calque".

(there is also an extra "plan". I think the sentence should be "Il est conseillé de travailler sur le Patron, sur un plan ou calque spécifique au pivot de pince.")
Note from asker:
That makes perfect sense, thank you Nicolas.

neutral B D Finch : I agree with you about the typo, but not sure about your translation of "calque" as "stencil". Wouldn't that have been "pochoir"?

neutral philgoddard : Doesn't it mean tracing? http://dictionary.reverso.net/french-english/Calque

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "With the clarification of the typo, I was able to find "calque" in the TM. It was translated mostly as "layer" although once as "tracing" (thanks, Phil). Thank you all for your responses."

duplicate copy

Plainly said, it is a copy or duplicate- Tracing is the act of producing the said copy.
Example sentence:

Preserve your sewing patterns by tracing them so you can use them again and again! ... You now have a duplicate copy of the pattern ready for use!
