French term

produits de distribution

French to English Marketing Games / Video Games / Gaming / Casino video games
I found "aftermarket products" on one Web site as a translation for "produits de distribution" but I'm not sure that's correct. This is from an internal report by a video game company: "Nous avons ralenti un peu les creations originales internes depuis 2 ans. Le marche pendant cette periode ne nous permettait pas de prendre davantage de risques. Il faillait consolider et structurer les studios internes et traverser cette periode de transition sans y perdre notre place. Dans ce temps, ce sont les produits de distribution qui on tire notre croissance." Thanks, Karen

hardware sales

The term "produits de distribution" clearly refers to products of other companies, distributed by the company in question. These might be equipment, gadgets, even T-shirts, everything what is not of own make.

Of course, you might opt for an expression like "purchased goods" instead of "hardware sales" in the title, as explained, but in case of such companies, hardware is the typical article in a similar situation.

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "This seems to be the best fit for the context. Thanks for suggesting it; I hadn't even thought of that possibility. I needed a more generic term, though; a friend with long business experience suggested "third-party product." Karen"

Yes, that's good. Esp. in the context.

mass-market product

Never heard of *produit de distribution* which is not to say it does not exist. Could they mean *produit de **grande** distribution (mass-market product)?

Karen,

IT is not my field. The only occurrence of the term I found on the Net is in a document from France, where it seems the idea is one of physical "distribution" with no archiving capabilities (not the correct technospeak, I know).

FWIW, here's the link:
