Backfill/Metal pipes
This is from a code of practice issued by the "Laboratoire Central des Ponts & Chaussées" relating to metal pipes (culverts, presumably). I have reached a section entitled "remblais techniques".
It states that "remblais techniques comprennent couramment trois parties distinctes : la fondation artificielle éventuelle ; les remblais latéraux de butée ; le dôme de couverture".
An illustration then shows a cross-section of the pipe and the backfill. The pipe is bottom-centred in the backfill which takes the form of a trapezium lying on top of the "artificial foundations". The pipe is then nestled between two wedges called the "banquette latérale (éventuelle)". The rest of the trapezium up to the top of the pipe is the "remblais latéraux de butée" and the top part of the trapezium (above the pipe) is the "dôme (ou matelas) de couverture".
I am in fact looking for confirmation of all these terms, but I'll ask separately as per the rules.

I think it would be unreasonable to expect the English and the French to have come to same conclusions regarding as delicate matter as drainlaying. The end result will inevitably be pretty much the same, but the French will have spent much longer analyzing the situation, working out some complex geometry, and giving fancy names to it all.
That said, I think "haunching" is a pretty good equivalent.
Examples follow. In particular, see how the diagram in the last ref. below matches up to your fancy geometry.

A distinction is to be made between the requirements of BEDDING, HAUNCHING AND SURROUNDING and those of backfilling. The former comprise all operations of trench fill up to a level 300 mm above the top of the barrel of the pipe. Backfilling constitutes the remaining operations up to ground level in verges and open ground and up to formation or sub-formation level under carriageways. Work above formation level constitutes construction or reinstatement of the pavement (see NG 706).

(a) Foundation: A foundation is required only when the native trench bottom does not provide a firm-working platform for placement of the pipe bedding material.
(b) Bedding: In addition to bringing the trench bottom to required grade, the bedding levels out any irregularities and ensures uniform support along the length of the pipe.
(c) Haunching: The backfill under the lower half of the pipe (haunches) distributes the superimposed loadings.
(d) Initial Backfill: This zone of backfill provides the primary support against lateral pipe deformation for flexible pipe.
(e) Final Backfill: Backfill above the pipe zone
