français term

prosaïque

Homework / test français vers anglais Sciences sociales Entreprise / commerce Politics/Trade Unions
Stuck on this word in the sentence, I would appreciate any input. This is the word in context 'On peut reprocher aux organisations syndicales de perdre le contact avec les réalites, les motivations prosaïques d'une telle initiative n'echapperont à personne.
This is from an article about an in-house survey being carried out by trade unions as to how changes in the working environment are perceived by employees.

Many thanks

The choice of the suitable word depends on the kind of reasons and the further context. One word of the selection above should fit.

agree DocteurPC : yourdictionary.com gives prosaic, though I'll admit rarely (ever?) seeing it in English

or banal. Someone who proves to be unimaginative. I think that "prosaique" in your text, as well as in many other contexts, has a negative connotation.
