French term
collecte
In a large job with thousands of entries, I often have "collecte" as in
***collecte*** de la matière premiere vegétale
or
***Collecteur*** de matière première végétale
or Post-***collecte*** (tri, vannage, conditionnement…)
Should be easy except that the same text already uses other words like "cueillir" and "Cueillette"
or
Heures de récolte
and
Enregistrement des quantités récoltées par jour
So you've already guessed. I've already used harvest and its inflexions and I've already used "pick" and it's inflexions
What is "collecte" therefore? A synonym? A word that covers both harvest and pick?
Or something else?
Thanks for any help

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.
How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:
An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)
A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).
Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.
When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.
* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

: Is it in the sens of regular removal/gathering of raw materials? Without any further context, I think you're right.

Discussion
I have to close this question without grading as the answer is both "gather" and "collect" depending on context.
But thanks for the help
I can see it too, and from your examples use collect, but don't use collect for "collecte" when "collecte" means gather. Don't hesitate to use gather instead, because French "collecte" can mean gather.
Example:
opérations de collecte de documents et de renseignements
efforts to gather material and information
I can assure you that I have not done that as I've just spent the last hour changing each segment one at time with either gather or collect
I even had an ambiguous segment which I commented for the client. It was:
Relation entre le terrain et l'organisation qui collecte ?
Thanks for your concern :)

That's ok, let's work out first which is right for you.
@Soizic
I think the issue here is the different contexts.
In that case, I would flick a coin and give it to the "winner" but in the glossary, I'd put both suggestions in.
Okay?

I've now gone back to the text with your ideas and decided that it could be both depending on the sentence
Relation entre le terrain et l'organisation qui collecte ? (probably "collect")
Post-collecte (tri, vannage, conditionnement…) (probably "gather" as you can't do anything with the product after it has been collected, so it must be "gather"
Thanks
