inferior cut/incision Explanation: Can't find any occurrences of this term in the net, but I just suppose that 'etelä' could here refer to 'inferior'. In this site http://www.maitrise-orthop.com/corpusmaitri/orthopaedic/123_... describing hip surgery, you find even a picture of the inferior cut. In Finnish 'etelä' (south, southern) often refers to sth located below / at the bottom. 'Eteläviilto' can be some kind of physicians' (semi)jargon, used when more literal expressions (alapuolinen viilto, interiorinen viilto) are felt to be too clumsy. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 days18 hrs (2006-03-03 17:12:21 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Probably you are right in accepting that 'etelänviilto' is a misheard 'etuviilto'. On this site http://www.tekonivel.net/luentoturku.htm there are told that to date surgery techniques have been 'etuviilto' and 'takaviilto' (and a new technique is gaining ground). |
