Since the context is keeping bees away, smooth-finished probably refers to clothings that have a smooth outer texture or surface so that bees cannot easily cling onto them and cause more mishaps.

A towel, for example would be rough-finished, and a leather jacket, or a rubber raincoat, smooth-finished.

I don't think it has anything to do with seams or stiches.

"Open-weave texture" makes me think of handwoven clothes.

2) tessuti lisci e uniformi, privi di rilievi e asperità. gli insetti che volano, per loro istintuale natura, sono attratti da piccoli rilievi cui magari noi non facciamo neanche caso, come fossero delle invitanti cime su cui posarsi :)
