polarized throughout/across/along thickness

A piezoelectric plate polarized throughout/across/along its thickness

What preposition would you use here? Please advise

polarized across its thickness

If the text referred to the length of the plate, which is the plate's longest dimension, I would use "along", as in "polarized along its length".

But as it refers to the thickness, that is, probably the shortest dimension of the plate (length, width, thickness), I would choose the preposition "across".

I would also use "across" if it refered to the width.
