English term

commercial broil eggs

English Medical Livestock / Animal Husbandry
What are commercial broil eggs? Are they the same as broiler eggs? Do they mean eggs that, when hatched, will serve as meat chicken?

Discussion

Anton Baer Jan 23, 2009:
hatching process? Eggs are for human consumption or for hatching into broiler (meat) chickens. Medical labs (and military bio-warfare depts) buy eggs by the ton for growing viruses and whatnot in them, since the egg has all the necessary nutrients. I think this is all they are referring to, not any irrelevant hatching process (since no one will be hatching the eggs). As sibsab says, the difference between the eggs are that the SPFs are "specific pathogen free" and the commercial broiler eggs are not so certified, so may contain pathogens. The safety trials are about the vaccine, not the 'hatching process'.

# sibsab The Question is ...What are commercial Broil eggs?
answer= a hatching process which is a commercial operation/business
Sabine Akabayov, PhD Jan 23, 2009:
@Gary: both kinds are from a broiler. The difference is the environment, one is pathogen-free (SPF eggs) and one is a commercial setting, where the chickens/eggs might be exposed to certain diseses
Edward LIU (asker) Jan 23, 2009:
Thanks, Gary. The context of this phrase is:

We will conduct safety trials with these lab made vaccines, rcNDV and rcNDV-VP2, exactly follow Alan’ protocol for Safety test for in ovo administered rNDV vaccine, in both SPF eggs and commercial broil eggs.

Gary D Jan 23, 2009:
looks like you place them in a casserole pot and place the pot in water and put them in the oven

broil eggs look like "poached eggs" cooked out of the shell in shallow water

I think a mistake for broiler eggs

I think you're right. They should be "broiler eggs". There's no such thing as a "broil egg". (Just try it.)

Thanks to the context, I'm absolutely sure they mean broiler eggs.
