switch wire
as far as I know a traveller wire is part of a three way switch used to turn on and off light from two locations. Three-way switches control lights and receptacles from two points: for example, a light in a hallway that can be operated from the first floor and second floor. Or, a light in a garage that can be turned on/off from the garage and the kitchen or pantry, etc.
The traveller wire is the one who actually makes the connection between the two switches. (see the link http://www.the-home-improvement-web.com/information/how-to/t... for more detailed explanation and models of different wiring)

: Yes, and in Elena's application, it is the DIMMER that has the spare (= unneeded) wire, to be capped off.

The term traveler wires are given this name because they run
between the two switches and are connected to the
traveler screw terminals
