"The doctrine of privity of contract means that, except in certain situations, a contract cannot confer rights or impose obligations on any persons other than the parties to the contract. The doctrine of privity is also known as the "third party rule", meaning that third parties to a contract can neither acquire rights nor incur liabilities under it. It is generally accepted as reasonable that a contract should not impose obligations on persons not party to the contract".
