祖父

Explanation:
The proper kanji characters for your grandfather (your father's father) is
祖父 (Sofu). A maternal grandfather is 外祖父 (Gaisofu--for your information...). These are humble forms of the word used when you're talking about your own grandfather to another person outside of your family. If you're addressing your own grandfather, or talking among your family about your grandfather, you should be more respectful and use おじいさん (ojiisann--can also be written as 御祖父さん or 御爺さん). You could also address him as おじいちゃん (Ojiichan), especially if you're a little child or a girl.
おじいさん is the most respectful among these and is also the word people use when refering to other people's grandfathers. 爺 (じじ、じじい)(Jiji or Jijii) are ruder forms...kind of like calling him an "old fart."
