Explanation:
Galley = hajókon a konyhakabin / konyhafülke - röviden: konyha.

Tulajdonképpen hajózási szakszó, a 14. századból. Akkor egy hajó tipus volt, majd a 18. századra már átment hajókonyha értelembe (is). Gyakorlatilag egy kabin, azaz fülke, ahol ételt tárolhatunk, készíthetünk, ill. szervírozhatunk.

(ném. Schiffsküche; franc. cambuse; ol. la cucina; ang. the galley, cookroom), az az elzárt hely, ahol főznek, sütnek, illetve ahol a hajón levő összes személyek élelmezésére szükséges ételeket készítik. Kisebb hajókon a H. rendesen a felső fedélzeten van, mig nagyobb hajókon felállításuk többnyire elől a helyi viszonyoktól függ. Nagyobb hadihajókon és óceángőzhajókon több konyha is van.

3. De: mindennapi használatban van egy harmadik értelme. Ha egy szövegben azt írják, a lakás v. ház "has a galley kitchen", az azt jelenti, hogy a (beépített konyhabútorok) elrendezése egysoros, vagy még gyakrabban kétsoros, egymással szemben nem nagy távolságra.
