English term

the metaphor of a containing space

English to Greek Medical Psychology
For over 40 years, Winnicott's work charted influences on personal growth and development and one of his key themes was the metaphor of a containing space or holding environment as a necessary precursor to health and well-being. For him, health was concerned with nurturing relationships and reciprocity. Occupation tends to engage people in mutual endeavour where such reciprocal relationships can develop and, therefore, offers real possibilities for the promotion of healthy individuals and of healthy communities where people can live and learn together.
