English as an additional language (EAL)

English to Greek Other Education / Pedagogy
Dear Parent/Guardian

The Inspectorate of the Department of Education and Science is carrying out an evaluation in your child’s school. The evaluation is looking at the work of the school and is focusing on the supports for pupils with English as an additional language (EAL).

While we are in your child’s school we will look at teaching and learning and we will talk to pupils in the classrooms. We will also meet with teachers and school management. As part of our work, we will meet a group of EAL pupils in the senior classes who are learning English as an Additional Language to get their views about the school and the support they receive. However, if you do not want your child to be involved in this meeting, please tell the school.

We will also give a questionnaire to all pupils in senior classes about their experiences of school, and they will complete this in school. The questionnaire is confidential to the inspectors doing the evaluation and your child’s name does not appear on it. However, if you do not wish your child to complete the questionnaire, please tell the school.

Parents play a very important role in their child’s education, and we would like to get your views and opinions as part of our evaluation work. We have enclosed a short questionnaire for you with this letter. It contains a number of statements about your child’s school and education. We would ask you to read each statement and to tick one of the boxes beside it to let us know if you agree or disagree with it. Please do not write any additional comments or information on the questionnaire. Your questionnaire is also confidential to the inspectors doing the evaluation. Please put the completed questionnaire in the enclosed envelope and return it to the school. The reporting inspector will collect the questionnaires on the [Insert date].

We know that this is a very busy time for parents but we would be very pleased if you could take time to complete and return the questionnaire. Your views and opinions are very important to our evaluation.

Thanking you most sincerely,

Είναι : η Αγγλική ως πρόσθετη γλώσσα;;;;

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Evi Prokopi (X)

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.
