substitutionism
English to German
Social Sciences
Nutrition
Recht auf Nahrung
In Asia and Africa, in the aftermath of decolonisation in
the mid-20th century, plantations were often nationalized
and considered by governments to be an important asset
for development strategies. At the same time, food companies, including many of
the traditional colonial plantation companies, started a
strategy of “substitutionism.” The food industry divested
from plantations and primary production to concentrate
on processing and marketing of fi nal food products, distancing
itself from its agricultural base.
