er lijkt inderdaad niet veel verschil tussen 'ding', op het eerste gezicht 'deukje/indeuking' en 'divot', op het eerste gezicht 'inslag, inkerving/indeuking/afdruk'

ik zeg 'op het eerste gezicht' omdat je in jouw specifieke context misschien (iets) andere woorden moet gebruiken

ik denk dat de tweede betekenis van 'divot' uit de golf glossary hier van toepassing / bruikbaar is / zou kunnen zijn
