: the word appeared in my mind is "拉“ after I've read your question, and I agree with Kepler's explanation. As for playing a work which is written for violin, I would say “演奏”。An example from Google "这首乐曲是小提琴独奏曲中的杰作，在肖松的所有作品中，它是被演奏得最多的一首。"
