Dutch term

stamper

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Mechanics / Mech Engineering
Vlaamse tekst: rapport over ongeluk met gasfles (de fles werd horizontaal vervoerd ipv rechtop - kraan onderging "mechanische impakt" die leidde tot breuk waardoor het gas vrijelijk kon stromen).

"- verder was de afsluiter [van de gasfles, SC] niet voorzien van de beschermkap zoals wordt aanbevolen bij het transport van gasflessen;
- de afsluitkap dient om de kraan tegen een eventuele mechanische inpakt te beschermen;
- opvallend is ook dat het kraanlichaam niet enkel een afdruippatroon heeft van gesmolten metaal maar ook duidelijke aanwijzingen van een mechanische breuk;

push rod, piston or stem

The "stamper" is part of a valve. Kluwers Universeel Technisch Woordenboek gives the definition of stamper as a rammer, ram, pestle or pounder and that is indeed the function of the "stamper" in the valve. The problem is that these names are not applied to any parts of a valve as they are designated in English. Different manufacturers appear to name parts differently and I think the words "push rod", "piston" or "stem" are used to designate a part of the valve which performs the ramming function. Hope this helps. I don't actually have time to look up schematic diagrams to append at the moment but I am sure you may be able to find some in Google images. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your help, Kate.

neutral Oliver Pekelharing : I thought 'needle' more likely.

I think for the cylinder valve itself a spindle is the right word, the regulator that is attached when the cylinder is linked to a system has a needle valve.

let's say confident. This shows how unsure I am.

I know this is a belated answer, but I never really understood why you found this to be "not enough info to really provide conf(v??)ident advise" ...how much more context did you need??

Valve?

You may have already thought of this, but based on the context, it may be a valve. This is an image of a household gas tap, with the valve 'mooi loodrecht'
Note from asker:
I did, Olly, and didn't quite reject it; simply couldn't find any refs for "stamper" ;). "Valve" does make sense. Thx for the image!
