Dutch term

Dat de door haar bedoeling

Dutch to English Art/Literary Journalism
I am translating a newspaper article of a speech made by the artist Toorop at the first exhibition held at a stedelijk museum in –I think- 1911. This sentence and the next are written by the, I assume, journalist in the introductory paragraph.

TIA
Francina

by virtue of its intent

perhaps you have to shuffle the rest of the sentence a bit around

The opening address, which is important because of its intent

Low confidence, so this is a bit of a guess:

I assume the text aims to achieve/prove/discuss something and is therefore of importance
Peer comment(s):

agree Tina Vonhof (X) : Also a good option.
