السقاطة في المصطلح الاثري: هي عبارة عن شرفة بارزة فوق بوابة قلعة أو حصن أو مدينة كان من المعتاد أن تزود بفتحة كبيرة في ارضيتها لإلقاء الأحجار والسهام والمواد الحارقة كالزيت المغلي ونحوه على المهاجمين للبوابة في حالة الحرب أو الحصار العسكري.
