To fashion victims, the challenge is obvious

i.e. the challenge is quite blatant to them, it does not escape their attention.
Not too keen on "fashion victims" though..."to the fashion conscious" or "to the dedicated follower of fashion" may work just as well.

agree Patrice : however I see nothing wrong with rendering "fashion victims" as just that -- it certainly is a commonly enough used term and this is a news article, hence the writer has probably thought carefully about that term

True, I think I just don't like the term personally. I kept it in my original choice as I can see the English borrowing in the French is deliberate here. Thanks!

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I agree with this so much as the "fashion victims" is changed, while, "the challenge is obvious" works perfectly. I think the negative connotation for "fashion victims" is too harsh for the context, so I prefered "fashion conscious". Thanks for all your help!"

Fashion victims can't help but accept the challenge

I see the "échaper" in this sense as kind of like it's too tempting to say no...they can't help themselves because they are addicted to fashion. A little sarcasm... ;)

THe challenge is not lost on fashion victims...

I just wonder about those fashion victims though--is it possible it is being used in French without the usual negative connotations?
