German term

pflanzlich

German to English Medical Medical: Pharmaceuticals dietary supplements

TIA

Discussion

KathyAnna O Oct 8, 2004:
I would call it simply herbal products or as you mentioned Herbals & Phytonutrients As far as I understand, Q10, Vitamins and Minerals in your text belong to a different Category
TonyTK Oct 8, 2004:
Have you got the catalogue as a file. If you want, I could take a look at it.
TonyTK Oct 8, 2004:
FWIW "calendula balm" would be a "herbal product" rather than phyto- or vegetable
Terence Ajbro Oct 8, 2004:
So both vegetable and herbal ingredients. Does not vegetable also include anything derived from a plant source? For example vegetable oil is also derived from plants.
Non-ProZ.com Oct 8, 2004:
no, there are also Jerusalem artichoke, coenzyme Q-10, bluebery, lutein, zeaxanthin, L-prolin, glycin, boswellia serrata capsules, calendula balm, zinc, rosemary, folic acid, kombucha preparations, and many many many more.
TonyTK Oct 8, 2004:
All herbals apart from "vitamin+amino acids"?? Hmmmmmmmm..., BTW drop the second "n" in "garcinina".
Non-ProZ.com Oct 8, 2004:
Products: Gingko capsules, asparagus capsules, konjac flour capsules, vitamin+amino acid capsules, yams powder, extracts from camu camu, garcinina cambogia, etc.
This is why I don't want to call them "vegetable"
TonyTK Oct 8, 2004:
What kind of products are listed under this heading? You often see "Herbals & Phytonutrients", for example.

botanical products

just a guess - a logical one
Peer comment(s):

agree Nancy Arrowsmith : yes, it's logical, and widely-used. The term is botanicals.

2 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks to all contributors and TonyK in particular. I ended up using my own "plant-based" in the heading and "botanicals" in the description."

plant-derived

I suggest plant-derived products.
Peer comment(s):

agree Carol Finch (X) : Yes, or plant-based, or to quote my shampoo "derived from natural plant sources"!

neutral TonyTK : Well yes, but isn't natural vitamin E also plant-derived?

phytoproducts

Quite a number of hits in Google. But you would have to check some of websites in order to find out if that's really what you are looking for. It depends on the body copy following your headline.
Peer comment(s):

agree TonyTK : Yes. On a besoin de context

agree Ingo Dierkschnieder : Habe gerade nachgeschaut: Auf einem meiner Nahrungsergänzungsmittel steht "vegetable source", also denke ich "vegetable products" ist okay.

it is also more comprehensible for the general public

neutral TonyTK : Sorry, but it sounds like they're selling vegetables. This chain-smoking vitamin freak has never seen "vegetable products" on any of his labels. "Vegetable source"/"Food source" yes, but that would be vitamins.
2 hrs
neutral Nancy Arrowsmith : botanicals is usually used, even if they are vegetable sourced

Now I'm confused ...

I thought there were several main headings - i.e.

1. Vitamine und Spurenelemente
2. Koenzym Q10 Präparate
3. Pflanzliche Produkte

You're saying that coenzyme Q10, glycine, zinc and folic acid (one of the B vitamins) are also listed under "Pflanzliche Produkte"?

I mean, peanuts contain zinc but it all sounds quite strange ...
