wife, who is permanently separated [from you]
For "getrennt leben" Romain gives "to live apart, to be separated."

Permanently separated: here is an example

"4 In 1983 Boyd's parents, Irvin and Mary Broell, permanently separated but did not get divorced..."
Living wife: the usual expression (esp. as opposed to dead wife)

: "Living" is a definite no-no. It would only make sense as opposed to "deceased". "Getrennt leben" is the standard German term for "to be separated".

permanently separated spouse
I would most certainly replace the "wife" with "spouse"- for obvious reasons.

Ann C Sherwin
: With all due respect, Ehefrau here refers to a specific person of known sex/gender. Furthermore, this rendition calls up visions of a dismembered body.

: I agree with Anne C. Also, what is the "obvious" reason for destroying information? I am baffled...
