"Das Gerät ist zur Kühlung von flachen Lebensmittelerzeugnissen, wie z.B. Snacks, Kuchen und flachen Tortenstücken bei Temperaturen von ca. 6°C bestimmt."
Talking about what a food cooling device of some sort is designed to do. Any idea what "flach" means in this context? "Flat food products" sounds odd to me ...

I'd be tempted to wait and see if there is a better suggestion than yours, but I'd rather doubt it. It's just for products flat enough to lift the front line over the back line, rather than for these enormous "Torten", where you can only put one line in the showcase.

Comment: ""Flat food products" doesn't get too many hits, but "flat foods" does, and I think I may actually use that, as I'm not sure it's absolutely necessary to specify "products" here. But I do prefer "products" over "items" as a translation for Erzeugnisse. So David wins the points by a nose over Ariane. Thanks also to Anne and Fantutti for your thoughts."

But that's what it means.
Items that are not high (like soda cans) but flat, like cakes and snacks as described above

I agree that it sounds odd - as if they have been squashed.
You could try to get round it with something like this.

Might work. By adding 'sized' you make sure that you're not talking about dull tasting foods.
