French term

échasse

French to English Tech/Engineering Aerospace / Aviation / Space
We're talking about the impeller blades of a turbomachine. Any idea what échasse is?

shank

I have indeed found 'stilt' for this ... but in patents. Nuff said.

Elsewhere one finds 'shank'.

The short extension, or shank, between the platform and fir-tree [see image] fixing in the disc allows space for cooling-air entry to blade, may control blade vibration modes and heat transfer to disc rim
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbine_blade

Task I1 led to the selection of electrochemical machining (ECM) to generate the blade airfoil and shank shapes followed by conventional grinding for the platform and firtree areas.

It makes sense that 'shank', for turbine blades, should be taken from the terminology of propellors:

Blade Shank The rounded portion of a propeller blade between the root and the airfoil section
https://www.skillscommons.org/bitstream/handle/taaccct/2033/...

The portion of a propeller blade that is nearest to the hub is referred to as the blade shank, and the portion furthest from the hub is called the blade tip. [see image]

Note from asker:
I understand that stilts are the literal translation but this reference has nothing to do with turbomachinery or blades.
