English term

English to Spanish Medical Medical (general) Medical
Hi,

What is the equivalent of "GP register (in General Medical Council)

"This doctor is not on the GP Register"

What is a care practitioner?

The answer to the question ‘What is a care practitioner?' is that they're a health specialist who provides care to older adults living in care homes

Colegio Oficial de Médicos

"This doctor is not on the GP Register": "Este médico no está colegiado".

The translation will depend on the country in which the text is to be used.

In Spain there is no Colegio Oficial de Médicos de España, but doctors are registered in the province in which they normally practice. The term "colegiado" is roughly equivalent to "registered". In general, a physician must be colegiado in order to practice medicine.

In Spain, there are no medical associations by specialty. A physician may join, if he/she wishes, the Society of his/her choice (Sociedad Española de Pediatría, Sociedad Madrileña de Neurología, etc. - Spanish Society of Pediatrics, Madrid Society of Neurology, etc.). However, this is not necessary to be able to practice as a physician; it is only a way of accessing training courses, congresses, etc. It has a continuing education function.

I am a General Practitioner.

neutral Stuart and Aida Nelson : This is not about being able to practice medicine in the first place. It is about being registered in the General Medical Council. See reference below.

For general practice, you would enter the specialty training programme at the start of ST2. When the GP training programme is completed satisfactorily, you will be eligible for a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT).

Your training programme will usually include three years of approved clinical training, or the equivalent part time. Some regions offer longer programmes that include academic work, fellowships or an ST4 year.

General practitioners (GPs) provide continuing medical care for patients in the community. They're usually a patient's first point of contact, seeing them in the surgery, at their home or within other settings such as care homes.
