German term

Massedurchführung

German to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Measurement devices
Another word used is "Erdungsbolzen" so is a possible synonym. It's a part of the housing used to protect from electrical shock by grounding the device.

Discussion

Johannes Gleim May 9, 2023:
@ Joseph "Massedurchführung" is probably an unfortunate term for a ground conductor or protective earth connection on the equipment or an equipotential bonding conductor between accessible metallic enclosures. "Erdungsbolzen" is applicable only under special conditions.

To find the correct term we need more detailed information about the device or equipment, the line and protection system used and the target country, because there are many different standardized terms for different systems and countries. The terms differ particularly between UK and USA, which has its own safety philosophy according to NEC and UL, quite different from IEC standards and IEC terminology.

Proposed translations

Mass feedthrough

In English (A feedthrough is a conductor used to carry a signal through an enclosure or printed circuit board. Like any conductor, it has a small amount of capacitance.)

In German (Eine Durchführung ist ein Leiter, der verwendet wird, um ein Signal durch ein Gehäuse oder eine Leiterplatte zu übertragen. Wie jeder Leiter hat er eine geringe Kapazität.)

There is no good translation for "Massedurchführung", however, Erdungsbolzen is translated as "earthing bolt" or you can also say "ground bolt".

grounding connection / ground conductor

In the context of electrical engineering, "Massedurchführung" refers to the grounding connection or ground conductor that is used to connect an electrical device or system to the ground. "Erdungsbolzen" is a specific type of grounding connection that is typically in the form of a metal bolt or stud that is screwed into the housing of an electrical device or system.
