Japanese term

妖精の国の一つ

Non-PRO Japanese to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Dear ProZ members,

I stumbled upon this sentence in a cartoon:

ここは妖精の国の一つ
(This is one of the fairy kingdoms.)

I was wondering if this is the only possible translation or if it could be interpreted as "This is one part of the fairy kingdom".
At this point of the story the author introduced only one fairy kingdom, but it may be a hint for the future, so I don't know what to do.

Thank you so much!

Your first interpretation is right. If they wanted to say, "this is one part of the fairy kingdom," then it would be 妖精の国の一部. I think ~の一つ is often used because one of ..." is often used in English. So it is safe to translate "back" to it.

About kingdom

I can agree with the translation done by Yuki. However, I'd like to add some comments about kingdom. You can say 「妖精界」for the world of fairies. Another example is 「魔界」for demon world. Therefore, you can translate it 「妖精界の一つ」in Japanese. I hope you will enjoy my suggestions.

The example above is the definition of fairies in Japanese.
Example sentence:

人間界に密接した世界に住み、変幻自在の超自然的な存在。その美醜、大小、善悪などの性状は地域や時代によって甚だ異なるが、一般にはきわめて人間に近い姿や性質をもち、良心や節操
