Non-PRO English to Russian Other General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Hello, just to verify is the phrase "ПАРКОВКА НА УЛИЦЕ ЗАПРЕЩЕНА" (NO PARKING ON THE STREET) in russian correct? Or is there another, more natural way to write it as an instruction for residents? Thank you for your help.
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

In fact in the Russian driving regulations we distinguish остановка и стоянка. In this case Parking is definitely стояна.
Concerning "на улице" - it sounds a bit strange. It should be either "на этой улице" or without it at all.

PS: Concerning "на улице" - if we are taking about a sign, no need to specify it because usually a sign is valid from one intersection to the next one. If it's a phrase in a text, you can specify "на этой улице"

Just remove 'на улице' as it doesn't sound natural. 'ПАРКОВКА ЗАПРЕЩЕНА!' is perfectly understood by any Russian speaking person. If you really need to specify some space around where it is forbidden to park you can add "на территории" (on the territory) like "ПАРКОВКА НА ТЕРРИТОРИИ ЗАПРЕЩЕНА". In Russian 'parking' (парковка) implies mainly leaving a vehicle for a short-term period vs 'stoyanka' ~ parking for more than 5 minutes or parking in a parking lot (usually long-term and chargeable). Thus 'ПАРКОВКА И СТОЯНКА ЗАПРЕЩЕНА!' is the variant that warns there is no way to park under the sign at all though it is still allowed to pick up or drop off passengers.

Road signs conventions

Perhaps the use of the attached images can be helpful. Though there are differences between the terms "parking", "waiting/standing" and "stopping" in all languages, including Russian, there is a regulated law about the standard road signs, in each country. Considering that the Russian-speaking countries are used to the signs by Vienna Convention on Road Signs and Signals, the appropriate name "СТОЯНКА ЗАПРЕЩЕНА" is used for "No Parking" sign that can have local variants as "No waiting", or "No standing", while "Остановка запрещена" indicates "No Stopping"

Painted curbs

Painted curbs
Painted curbs are often used to draw motorists’ attention to areas where parking is restricted. It is essential that you consult your state’s own driving manual for the meaning of different curb colors, as there is no country-wide standard. The following list can be used for guidance:

Yellow curbs: Parking is prohibited, though you may be allowed to stop here for picking up and unloading passengers.
Red curbs: Parking is totally prohibited.
Blue curbs: Parking is reserved for disabled permit holders only.
In many cases, painted curbs will be clarified with “NO PARKING” signs to help drivers understand their meaning.
