I doubt the subject in point and 'focus(s)ed on' - really matters.
Otherwise, options in my day are now called electives, possibly imported from the USA into the UK, rather than the other way round: 'Electives are courses that count toward your credits for graduation, but are not requirements for your particular degree of study.'
