agree philgoddard : Or maybe "What we have left behind". I'm guessing this refers to fossil fuels, but it's probably clarified in the next sentence.

Ok, vamos lá. Tentei pesquisar o termo, mas parece de uso raro e sem equivalente imediato. Lembrei, então, do título da autobiografia do Roberto Campos, "A Lanterna na Popa". Na introdução, podemos ler: "Estas memórias são apenas uma Lanterna na Popa de um pequeno barco. Como dizia Samuel Taylor Coleridge 'a luz que a experiência nos dá é a de uma lanterna na popa, que ilumina apenas as ondas que deixamos para trás'". No original, o trecho é: "the light which experience gives us is a lantern on the stern, which shines only on the waves behind us.”
