episcopal benefice

> fief/dom is not quite within the parameters of the term: 'an estate of land, especially one held on condition of feudal service..'

Note also the meaning of *advowson* as the (archaic) right in English law of presenting a nominee to a benefice.

Episcopal : not confined only to the Catholic Church, as suggested by some g/hits.
Example sentence:

A benefice specifically from a church is called a precaria (pl. precariae), such as a stipend, and one from a monarch or nobleman is usually called a fief.

Advowson : (in ecclesiastical law) the right to recommend a member of the Anglican clergy for a *vacant benefice*, or to make such an appointment.
