Spanish term

junto a ella está nuestra gente

Spanish to English Other Management
las pocas empresas que han cumplido cien años y alcanzado cierto porte han desplegado grandes esfuerzos en ello. Si bien somos receptores de tecnología, junto a ella está nuestra gente. Esta es una de las cosas que hemos hecho bien.

What does junto a ella está nuestra gente refer to?
Thank you!

Discussion

Manuel Aburto Oct 30, 2022:
I agree with Domini Lucas,

"ella" in this context refers to "technology".
Domini Lucas Oct 29, 2022:
@phil and @neilmac I'm not sure about the en ello without further context, though I concur with @neilmac that it is probably as he says. I read the next sentence as meaning sth like (very loosely for gist not translation purposes) that though the company uses/ has taken technology on board/places a high value on technology, it still also places a high value on/prizes its people. Or (even more loosely) they don't use tech without people - it's people and technology working side by side. Not sure I'm right, but it's how I read it from the snippet.
Domini Lucas Oct 29, 2022:
@asker Good afternoon. Just wondering about the tone of this. i.e. is it an internal document, a policy, marketing, etc. 'up there' has come to mind and am pondering about whether it might be an option if it can be worked in, but would be limited in tone. I'm reading it as ella referring to la tecnología as others seem to be doing as well.
philgoddard Oct 29, 2022:
Oh, yes.
I wonder if it's one of those clichéd statements about people being their greatest asset.
neilmac Oct 29, 2022:
En ello = to do so (or words to that effect): "...the few companies that have reached the age of 100 and achieved a certain size have put a lot of effort in doing so/to get there..."
philgoddard Oct 29, 2022:
I'm not clear what "en ello" refers to. I assume "receptores" means "receptive to".

it goes hand in hand with our people

"While it is true that we profit from technology...." or alternatively
"While it is true that we are beneficiaries of technology....".

I must note that I believe there's something wrong with the logic between the first and the second clause in the source. I think "technology" should be the main subject of the first part to be able to use "it" in the second clause.

"Although technology benefits us, it goes hand in hand with our people."

I hope you'll find any of these suggestions useful.

as much as our people

We value/rely on* technology as much as (on) our people. That is one of the key things we have done well.

Si asumimos que el referente de lo que hicieron bien es la acción de la oracioón anterior, necesitamos refrasearla, porque así como está planteada, es sintácticamente inviable.
Surge la ambiguedad y se pierde una idea clave del discurso.
*El verbo que elijas depende de lo que quisieron codificar con "receptores" o, bien del contexto mas general.

Suerte!!

thanks Simone
disagree philgoddard : Sorry, but this simply doesn't make sense, and it's not grammatical.

Asker's question: «What does junto a ella está nuestra gente *refer to*?» My Answer explains it - *alongside technology are our people* - in the context of the Spanish phrase: «Si bien somos receptores de tecnología, *junto a ella* está nuestra gente.»
neutral neilmac : I think you'll find the correct verb form to use with people is 'are'....

But I've already corrected it in my reply to Phil
disagree AllegroTrans : Ungrammatical - to correct it you need the hide the answer and post a new one

our people are alongside it

I'm not mad keen on this either, and it could do with tweaking.

"While we are recipients of technology, alongside it are our people."

Here is another stab at it:

"Although we are technology recipients, it's in the safe hands of our team…"
Peer comment(s):

neutral Cristina Bufi Poecksteiner, M.A. : You do not specify that it's referred to *technology*. Asker's question was: "What does *junto a ella está nuestra gente* refer to?" And the plural form was already corrected in my reply to Phil

Sorry, but from where I'm sitting it's pretty obvious that it refers to technology. I didn't feel the need to state the obvious. And I did say it needs tweaking.
