I'm confused by "papahulayon", which looks like a Tagalog-style reduplication to me. I was wondering about the exact meaning: is it perhaps internsive, for example?

| Many thanks – so, hulay is “to rest”, isn't it? Therefore pahulay is “to cause to rest, to give rest to”. But surely the future of pahulay must be simply pahulayon, without doubling the pa? Similarly, the future of gipalit is paliton, not papaliton. That’s why I thought something else must be going on, maybe a special emphasis. Needless to say, what is important for my specific purposes is to understand and translate exactly what is there in the Cebuano, whether or not it is an accurate translation of the original Biblical text. |
