MRI report
This is part of a report of a brain MRI scan:
How to translate this little phrase, within this larger sentence? This MRI terminology is a foreign language to me, regardless of what language it's written in!
Thanks for your help with this one.

with no evidence of restricted diffusion
Background/theory: Many pathologies cause restricted extracellular diffusion of water protons including infarction, cytotoxic edema, high cellularity within tissue, viscous fluid, demyelination, and metabolic disturbances. Restricted diffusion is seen as high-signal intensity on DWI. However, not all hyperintense regions on DWI images are due to restricted diffusion.
So, I read it as multiple hyperintense tiny lesions who show no evidence of restricted diffusion ( stressing this since many hyper intense lesions show diffusion restriction) compared to the areas of chronic leukoencephalopathy ( which shows diffusion restriction).
See what I mean?

Note from asker:
Ciao Lirka! Yes, I do see what you mean ... after following the link provided above by Elsa, the translation I came up with says " ... do not show restricted diffusion in relation to the areas of chronic leukoencephalopathy " Pretty close; I'll change "in relation to" to "compared to". This MRI language is SO strange to me! |

Hi Elsa. I checked the link you provided; it helped me to understand this. Muchísimas gracias. |

do not restrict (reduce) in their diffusion
do not restrict their diffusion into areas of chronic leukoencephalopathy.
