(the writer, boasting of how modern they are, ironically, for using the @ symbol next to someone's name)
It refers to the use of the @ symbol, clearly, but ... what's the right term here? Is this "tag"
I tagged you in a comment ... ?

: I agree with this one too. It is a virtual "poke" and sounds hip enough. Check Urban Dictionary https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=ping

to mention
It means to mention someone on social media using @. "Arrobar" is an alternative to "to mention".

: I agree with this, but if the person is trying to sound hip and computer savvy, I think my suggestions are better.

I added an address sign or at sign...
What does AT stand for in email?
address sign
at sign (address sign or @)
On the Internet, @ (pronounced "at" or "at sign" or "address sign") is the symbol in an E-mail address that separates the name of the user from the user's Internet address, as in this hypothetical e-mail address example: [email protected].
