German term
herunterspulen
German to English
Medical
Medical (general)
psychiatry
Same psych report as before.
I don't exactly understand the colloquial German here: herunterspulen
Description of how the patient spoke about her accident:
"Sie redet ohne Punkt und Komma und ohne Satzmelodie, hört bis zu 15 Minuten lang nicht auf zu sprechen, als wurde sie einen vorgegebenen Text langsam "herunterspulen" oder einen film in Zeitlupe gleichzeitig erleben und wiedergeben,"
So far I have:
She spoke monotonously, without any indication of full stops or commas, and continuously for up to 15 minutes without pausing, as if she were slowly "??" a pre-written text or simultaneously experiencing and reproducing a film in slow motion.
THANKS

to reel off
My suggestion
as if she was " reeling off " a given text or experiencing and replaying a film in slow motion at the same time.

Example sentence:
Dem Auftritt sieht Jansons mit Respekt entgegen: „Man kann einen Wiener Walzer von Johann Strauß nicht mechanisch herunterspulen. Seine Musik ist nicht leicht.“
to say a long list of things quickly and without stopping: The old man reeled off the names of his 22 grandchildren.
Note from asker:
Thanks for your input, but doesn't reel off imply speed? Here, however, it says SLOWLY herunterspulen... |

uyuni
: or why not just 'slowly unreel" if Lirka wants the connotation of slowness...?

: "Slowly reel off" works for me. "Rattle off" is similar, but strikes me as faster.

Anne Schulz
: Just curious - independent of this question: Is there a difference in meaning or use between "reel off" and "unreel"? Is "unreel" easier, more laid-back, and "reel off" more technical, neutral?
