When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

I should emphasize that although I am not in any way a medical specialist, this kind of terminology is pretty common even in everyday language.

neutral Nadja Wieser : I am not sure. I would maybe seek the advice of a medical professional. I would agree to the responses posted thus far pertaining to all the other vitamins, but I thought vitamin D was a vitamin that the body produced, not one that was obtained by food?

Some vitamin D is indeed obtained through diet, but not enough.

the amount of vitamin D consumed in food

The quantity of the vitamin consumed by the study population did not reflect that of the population as a whole.

Here's an extract from the study:
The habitual intake of calcium and vitamin D was estimated by using a validated food-frequency questionnaire (27, 28) that was administered by a research nutritionist, and a health and lifestyle questionnaire, which assessed physical activity, general health, smoking status, and alcohol consumption, was completed at baseline.

Vitamin D intake from food or supplements

Although it is possible to get a prescription for vitamin D, most people who take vitamin D get it from their food and/or from over-the-counter supplements.
Peer comment(s):

neutral philgoddard : Not supplements.

neutral Tony M : As Phil says, this is specifically food but NOT any supplements

Vitamin D intake from nutrition not taking drugs

dietary vitamin D ≠dietary supplement

"A dietary supplement is a manufactured product intended to supplement one's diet by taking a pill, capsule, tablet, powder, or liquid and also dietary supplements cannot take the place of healthy eating habits."

Peer comment(s):

disagree Tony M : Inappropriate register, and adds a judgemental element not present in the neutral original.

disagree Yvonne Gallagher : have to agree with Tony re register and judgemental tone. And "dietary supplement" is hardly "taking drugs"?
