French term

service acte détaché

French to English Law/Patents Law (general)
Bailiff's instrument.

This is the blurb in the left-hand column (about how to pay etc.).

"Références à rappeler :
Cor : 000, MD : 0000
Gestionnaire de dossier :
NF (service acte détaché)
Ligne directe :
0100000000
Cor :
..."

To me this looks like some sort of outsourced admin service-provider. Anyone familiar with this? Regarding the adjective détaché, I assume this applies to acte, but just possibly it applies to service.

"NF" may indeed be the name of an actual company. If so I haven't been able to find it.

Discussion

Eliza Hall Sep 29, 2021:
FR service doesn't mean EN service This sounds like the "actes détachés" department/office of a Huissier de Justice. Along these lines:

"Pour répondre à vos attentes, notre Etude dispose de services spécialisés :
Pôle de recouvrement amiable
Service actes détachés
Service constat
Service judiciaire"
http://www.huissier-melun.com/huissier-justice-77/etude-huis...

EN service (as in serving legal documents) = signification.

FR service (in this and many other contexts) = division, office, department, etc. "Je travaille au service juridique de l'entreprise" = I work in the company's legal department. "Le service de recherche et développement" = the research and development department.

Mpoma (asker) Sep 27, 2021:
@AT It's a bog standard signification de jugement.

Asker What is your document exactly Chris? Is it something notarised? I believe this is some kind of external service provider but I am wondering whther it is a process server or some other service. Knowing the story would help.
Conor McAuley Sep 27, 2021:
Yes, deeds of service and obviously not documents, silly me.

Different, but related term This ProZ entry refers to a different, but related term. I thought it might be helpful.

NF might be a norm.

[Single/Unique/Special] Instruments Department

What is an Acte Détaché: un huissier "traite également les actes détachés (AD), c'est-à-dire les actes provenant de professionnels (avocats, notaires) ou encore de particuliers demandeurs, n'ayant aucun lien avec un dossier ouvert antérieurement, d'où leur nom « acte détaché »."
See p.78 of: http://cyberdoc.univ-lemans.fr/memoires/2015/Droit/M2/M2_Con...

What is FR "service" in this context: a department, office, division, etc. (see discussion). For example, "je travaille dans le service juridique de l'entreprise" = I work in the company's legal department.

Thus, "Service Actes Détachés" is the department of a huissier de justice that handles "actes détachés."

Actes is often translated by deeds, but I never use that word unless the act in question actually is a deed. The broader and more accurate EN term is "instrument" (first definition here: https://thelawdictionary.org/instrument/).

I'm not aware of any EN legalese term that distinguishes one-off legal instruments from instruments that are part of an existing dossier that your firm is already handling. In everyday speech, legal professionals might refer to a matter as a "one-off," but that's too casual. So, I've suggested a few more formal-sounding synonyms.

NF (External Documents Department)

NF are the initials of the person looking after the matter.

This is all I have on "acte détaché":

=> So external, since another law firm is in charge of enforcement. There may be a better word, but this gets the job over the line I think.

Many "huissiers" have special departments for "actes détachés", for example:

Marco is right, insert "Deeds of Service" in place of "Documents".

I got as far as "deed" and hit a blank.

French term (edited): service d'acte détaché

Outsourced Process-Service Agency / for Ancillary Admin. Matters /

Taking a 'detached' view and speculating on service of process, I am fusing - so lifting - everyone else's ideas. The acte is meant to reflect the service of process, rather than the false friend of 'service' that has traditionally been EEC/EC-rendered as an 'agency'.

'Acte détachable : Droit admin. > acte que le juge accepte de soumettre à un régime contentieux différent de celui appliqué à la mesure principale, dans le cadre de la théorie de l'acte administratif complexe', Le Droit de A à Z, Dictionnaire Juridique Pratique + lexique de termes juridiques, Dalloz.

So ancillary matters or issues rather than 'anicllary divorce relief', though I am running scared of outlandish comments.
Example sentence:

La signification de votre acte détaché a lieu dans les 2 jours ouvrés qui suivent sa réception avec le versement d'une provision avant 11h00 le jour de votre envoi.
