Bekenner-Kampagne

Im Mittelpunkt steht eine Bekenner-Kampagne, die betroffene Eltern informieren und darüber hinaus das Thema einer breiten Öffentlichkeit bewusst machen soll.

This is a campaign to raise awareness of the issue of drug addiction and how it affects parents. I feel the meaning is 'awareness campaign' but this isn't really what 'Bekenner' means. Any suggestions?

Andrew has made good point Literally translating the term sounds rather stilted.
The campaign centers/centres around parents (who have had to cope) coping with their children's drug addiction.
Or something like this.

Kampagne (DE) = campaign (EN)? From the information here, it appears that this video (or possibly series of videos) is one element of a broader campaign ("Im Mittelpunkt steht...")

Central to the campaign is a [series of] video[s] in which parents [of addicts] share their own experiences [with others who find themselves in similar circumstances].

I think the idea is of parents opening up about their experiences as it goes on to say 'Gezeigt werden Eltern, die sich öffentlich zur Drogensucht ihres Kindes bekennen.'

Bekenner literally means 'confessor', and I think it's a campaign where people talk about their experiences. There's probably a marketing term for it, but I can't think of it.

"At the forefront of it all is an 'we've been there' campaign designed to educate affected parents and bring more awareness to a wider audience."

'Confessions' sounds to me as if the user parents had to fess up to something they had done wrong, but that would be stretching the German meaning, in my opinion.

Thanks, this is great and avoids the negative connotation of 'confession' in English, which would suggest the parents have something to feel guilty about, which is the exact opposite message of this campaign in trying to encourage them to open up.

confessions campaign

This is a confessions campaign, using people's confessions to appeal emotinoally to the audience. A well-known example of this is the Mars confessions campaign, taking on a more humourous slant, but this type of campaign also lends itself to more serious topics such as drug addiction, mental illness, etc.

Because nobody wants to hear your advert. NOBODY! So the way to cut through that indifference, make people listen and care about what you have to say is to entertain.

I believe you just need a straight translation of the term here if the actual content of the campaign is explained further in the text.

Testimony campaign or personal testimony campaign would be other options, depending on who is actually reading this text. As has been quite rightly pointed out, if the text is read by the affected parents themselves, "confessions" could lead to feelings of guilt and shame. However, if the text is just a recap of what a specific marketing agency has been doing, I see no reason why the usual term "confessions" cannot be used.

neutral AllegroTrans : Something tells me that the German word is not a staright correlation with the English word and has a somewhat wider meaning; "confessions" smacks of having to "run and apologise" rather than to simply "tell the story"
