Hi Lirka, Reading the whole stories, the answers are way less different than the words in the proposals. And I think it's ok to assume that "Stufen" refers to sampling even though it is mentioned in a row with dyes. While there are occasional "Stufenfärbungen" (such as using a multi-step procedure for immunohistological staining, or stepwise staining with dyes at different pH or concentration for scientific purposes), these are very specific and don't seem to fit your context. On the other hand, you may start out with staining a few sections and proceed with creating further step sections depending on the results of the first slides.

Hi Susanne and Anne... very different answers, aren't they? What bothers me is that this term is grouped under Faerbungen...so not sure if it's about the type of biopsy. I went with the previous answer that Susanne referenced, but admittedly not with high confidence.
