@Tomasso - all the same, all about price of basic Qoute form your reference: "In most cases, the user will find that the price of oil goes up dramatically from fighting grade, to general purpose, to premium grade."
So also here 'fighting grade' is low priced basic oil. Or have you found some other meaning/ use as well?
Ha die Barend, grappig: we waren precies gelijk... qua timing en inhoud :-)
Barend van Zadelhoff Jul 5, 2021:
Which is consistent with the definition I offered:

In most cases, the user will find that the price of oil goes up dramatically from
fighting grade, to general purpose, to premium grade.

fighting grade, found this (newer use of term?? Performance Level
Next, hydraulic fluids can be classified by performance, with the choice of three levels: basic (fighting
grade), general purpose or premium. https://www.lelubricants.com/wp-content/uploads/pdf/news/Whi... Finally, certain OEMs require specific high-performance fluids for their equipment, and these are called
premium hydraulic fluids. In most cases, the user will find that the price of oil goes up dramatically from
fighting grade, to general purpose, to premium grade. new subject to me

very high test gas??, someone has already said https://books.google.com/books?id=i5WxOMws32YC&pg=PA163&lpg=...

Gradually, volatility gained favor over the Baumé test, though both would continue to be used in combination to specify a gasoline. As late as June 1917, Standard Oil (the largest refiner of crude oil in the United States at the time) stated that the most important property of a gasoline was its volatility.[29] It is estimated that the rating equivalent of these straight-run gasolines varied from 40 to 60 octane and that the "High-Test", sometimes referred to as "fighting grade", probably averaged 50 to 65 octane.[30] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gasoline

New to me, seems as already stated, Fighting grade is possibly RACING oil???
Barend van Zadelhoff Jul 4, 2021:
This is what you are looking for, fits in with your context.

Ik ga geen vertaalvoorstel (anyone who feels like it please go ahead) maar de algemene strekking is, lijkt mij, typen olie met een kwaliteit die het mogelijk maakt om ze tegen 'vechtprijzen'/competitieve prijzen te verkopen

definition (fighting grade gasoline):

gasoline sold at reduced price margins to attract customers and/or meet local competitive prices. Has usually been regular grade, leader gasoline

Also definitions of:
regular grade
premium grade

zie ook The three ways oil leaves an engine are base oil evaporation at high temperatures, leaks, and blow-by past the piston rings during operation. Because base oils for aviation lubricants are not formed from light base stocks, the evaporation factor is negligible. Multiviscosity oils do not thin out as much at high temperatures, helping to prevent excessive blow-by and/or leakage.

Just a wild guess... could it be an oil grade for fighter planes / aviation purposes?

https://www.nyco-group.com/site/content/uploads/NYCO_Fighter...

Oil viscosity is more important in an aviation engine than in an automobile engine. The fewer additives in the oil, the more dependent it is on its viscometrics (viscosity properties). Straight, untreated base oil can be limited in its lubrication without supplemental additives. Aviation oil will assist in boundary or mixed film lubrication, detergency and other lubrication aspects.

oliesoorten in zwaar beconcurreerde marktsegmenten

"Gasoline, fighting grade - gasoline sold at reduced price margins to attract customers and/or meet local competitive prices. Has usually been regular grade, leader gasoline."
