Discussion

Mario Freitas Apr 2, 2021:
Non natives Please note the exact same thing happens in the En-Pt pair. The big issue is not non-natives suggesting the answers, it's the non-natives who make the question and choose the most lietral suggestion many times. This is why I always tell everyone who searches ProZ to open the question and check the suggestions that were not chosen. The best solution is usually among them.
Mario Freitas Apr 2, 2021:
Once again... Once again, a colleague erases his comments in a discussion when he notices it's undue, and we all sound like we're crazy, talking to a ghost. Were this a social media group, he'd be banned from the group.
Robert Forstag Apr 2, 2021:
Agree with Mark It is crucially important to bear this point in mind, and with specific reference to postings of "Portuguese-to-English" questions in Kudoz, where suggestions that are not acceptable English proliferate like a deadly virus, and are - sadly - often awarded points.

A high degree of humility is in order whenever one is translating out of his or her mother tongue - irrespective of one's competence in the target language.
Mark Robertson Apr 2, 2021:
General comment Non-mother-tongue writers of English (or in any other language) suffer/benefit from the fact that their primary linguistic frame of reference is normally their mother tongue and not the language in which they write. This means that mother-tongue expressions and idioms can, and do, easily creep from the mother tongue into the second language, in what is an ever-present natural process. The internet abounds with texts written in English by non-mother-tongue writers. These texts can include expressions, idioms and syntax borrowed from the writer's mother tongue. This can be a problem when we seek to use internet searches as a source, or validation, of translation options. It is therefore perhaps advisable to factor-in the writer's mother-tongue / non-mother-tongue status, when evaluating internet sources.

Oliver and Mario: Noted, thks!
Mario Freitas Apr 2, 2021:
Context I must agree with Dasher. Context is very important. The text seems to be in the marketing area, therefore, informal and for the general public, therefore "amicable" is not the most adequate term, although it's not incorrect.
Dasher Apr 1, 2021:
Condições de pagamento amigáveis If it means anything, a brief Google search provided the following returns:
1) Easy payment terms: Used mostly in the US, with over 500,000 results. About 57,000 results in the US alone;
2) Friendly payment terms: About 45,000 results, used mostly in the UK and countries where British English is spoken. About 80 results in the US;
3) Amicable payment terms: 15 results. Besides, this expression is always used where there is a dispute in respect of a debtor in default, which is not the object of the relevant question.

This is one of the ways I've seen and heard it expressed in advertising.
