Thanks Althea Draper, I'm sure that is indeed the answer.
Lesley Clarke (asker) Mar 17, 2021:
Many thanks Althea Draper, that seems to be the answer.
Taña Dalglish Mar 17, 2021:
So, it seems that based on your last entry, Althea's suggestion of "riving knife" would appear to be correct. "On some table saws, in order to ..., the riving knife is not fitted. The riving knife ..."

I'm afraid I did not give enough context.

The quick-acting brake improves safety by stopping the saw blade in seconds. Safe and clean insertion. The spacer wedge is spring loaded and slides back into .
Althea Draper Mar 17, 2021:
If the 'cuña de separación' has to be manually retracted (separately from the circular sawblade), then it is called a splitting blade or splitter.
If the 'cuña de separación' moves up and down along with the sawblade, then it is called a riving knife.

Thanks. I had already seen that, but this wedge is not for the purpose of making firewood.

riving knife / splitter blade

If the 'cuña de separación' has to be retracted separately from the circular sawblade ie its height is independent of the saw height, then it is called a splitter blade, splitting blade or splitter.
If the 'cuña de separación' moves up and down along with the sawblade, then it is called a riving knife.

According to this link, "The riving knife has been a required "standard" item in Europe for many years. Recent regulation changes have made the riving knife acceptable in the United States, therefore some new American table saw models including Delta's new Uni-Saw ® (planned for release in early 2009), are being introduced with riving knifes."
