Spanish term

condiciones de cuidado

Spanish to English Medical Medical (general) Puerto Rico
On an instruction sheet for hospitalized patients and their families (Puerto Rico).

Se recomienda que permanezca un familiar con pacientes de edad avanzada, sedados, post-operados, comatosos, desorientados, en *condiciones de cuidado* y ninos menores de 12.

I take the term to mean those patients who are in a more serious condition and need closer monitoring, but am drawing a blank on an equivalent in English. Doesn't seem like "critical condition" fits, or does it?

neutral Barbara Cochran, MFA : The term you offer seems to be more specific to people who need mental health attention, but the asker didn't mention that.

whose conditions require medical care/attention

My take on it.

Although I like the more specific term "monitoring", too. Maybe I should have said "ongoing medical attention".
