When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Not to worry I received no notification of this chat going on behind my back, but no worries :-)
Steffen Walter Feb 22, 2021:
Cilian ... ... would have to post his comment/suggestion as an answer in order to be chosen and graded.
Kathleen Tunney (asker) Feb 22, 2021:
How to respond? Hallo zusammen! Being new on this board, I don't know how to choose Cilian O'Tuama's answer. Röntgen is not the answer, but Cilian's solution is in the form of a comment, and I don't know how to choose it and grade it. Can anyone advise?

Vielen Dank an alle, die meine Frage beantwortet haben!
Steffen Walter Feb 21, 2021:
German vs English It is certainly very common in German documents of this type, which is why I'd leave it "as is" if it's indeed a name.
Kathleen Tunney (asker) Feb 21, 2021:
Context This is the date the discharge summary was drawn up. Sorry, I should have added that information. I'm unaware that adding a Kürzel after a DATE is commonplace in English-language documents. I'm used to seeing it at the end of the document, together with the main signature. Hmmm. I'm wondering if I should leave it off, if readers will not understand what it indicates. However, I'm also new at translating discharge summaries. Can someone tell me if the practice is common for this particular type of medical text?

Also: thanks everyone, for your contributions!
Marga Shaw Feb 21, 2021:
@ Kathleen Could we have more context please. For example, it would be helpful to know where exactly in your discharge summary "Datum: 21.02.2013/Rö." appears. I also think that "Rö." = "Röntgen" is likely.

Röntgen = X-ray

Does that fit the context?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Cilian O'Tuama : More likely it's someone's Kürzel, IMO

Maybe you're right. One of the two
neutral philgoddard : If it's the date on which the discharge summary was drawn up, Cilian is almost certainly right.

Hence why I put "Does that fit the context"...
neutral Edith Kelly : it is someones's name. // It does not fit the context

Yes, yes Edith I get the point. But I did say "Does that fit the context"... There is no context!
agree David Tracey, PhD : If it's consistent with the context, yes

Thanks David
neutral Lirka : with Cilian; most often, the date is followed by the author's Kürzel

neutral Peter Lautz : with Cilian and Lirka. Quite common in Germany.

agree Lancashireman : Crikey! A lot of people piling in here, including the ultimate authority, Peter Lautz. As you say, "if it fits the context". And if it doesn't, no need to labour the point.

Thanks Lancashireman. I don't usually bother to try answering queries because of this, people piling in and making me feel stupid!
