English term

fusion of bones

English to German Medical Medical (general) Clinical trial - Doctor's instructions and questions to patient/subject of the clinical trial
Hi,

This is a rush job. I am thus unable to research this. The following change the end customer made to my translation does not seem quite right to me. Or is it correct after all?

EN:
If so, do you know if the surgery involved ***fusion of bones***, a transfer of tendons, heel cord lengthening or lowering of the arch?

DE:

Please provide medical translation-related feedback on such end-customer change to my previous translation with a focus on putting the right words there. This is PAID work (viz. a somewhat more intricate version of galley proofing my amended translation), not a complaint.

Cheers,

4 +1 Knochenfusion
Change log

Dec 16, 2020 11:39: A. & S. Witte changed "Field (write-in)" from "Clinical trial - Doctor\'s instructions and questions to patient/subject of the Clinical Trial" to "Clinical trial - Doctor\'s instructions and questions to patient/subject of the clinical trial"

Discussion

Anne Schulz Dec 16, 2020:

A. & S. Witte (asker) Dec 16, 2020:
Interesting discussion. Thanks guys. Here ... ... is some context:

Do your feet slap when you walk?
Do you wear shoe inserts/insoles (below the ankle)?
Do you wear braces, splints, or equivalent type of orthotics that extend above your ankle?
Have the above ankle orthotics described above ever been prescribed or suggested by healthcare professionals?
Have you had surgery on your feet or ankles?
If so, do you know if the surgery involved ***fusion of bones***, a transfer of tendons, heel cord lengthening or lowering of the arch?
Regina Eichstaedter Dec 16, 2020:
B. Morbus Bechterew)
Anne Schulz Dec 16, 2020:
Is it about arthrodesis? Then you may translate either "Knochenfusion" or "Knochenversteifung" (better, "knöcherne Versteifung"?). The reason for prefering "Versteifung" may be that it is a lay term, and "Fusion" is less specific, as is used for developmental and other processes (e.g. healing) as well.
Regina Eichstaedter Dec 16, 2020:
A. & S. Witte (asker) Dec 16, 2020:
I am not a medical translator and understand that this is "Knochenfusion". Could you please confirm this translation. That would be great. We do not need to worry why the end customer made that change ... I don't think?

Knochenfusionen, auftreten - https://books.google.pt/books?id=WSH7DAAAQBAJ&pg=PA59&lpg=PA...
